The research includes both synthesis and analysis methods to develop and improve products and production systems. Both technical and organizational issues, approaches and theories are highlighted and applied.

Areas

Product and Production Development is organized into three areas.

Product Design and Development

The area focuses on efficient engineering processes and product platforms. The overall goal is to develop general methods and models as well as demonstrators that contribute to an increased ability in the industry to master change and complexity.

Industrial Design (on hold)

The area mainly focuses on two specializations - research for design and research through design. The research deals with the entirety of product realization with a focus on the parts where the product's design affects the process, with a focus on the product's outermost interface in the interaction with the product user.

Production Development

The area includes knowledge about the development of future production systems. The focus is on the entire chain from production strategy to implementation of production systems and their production technical solutions.
